Triple Play

Variations of Video Poker: Triple Play

Triple Play, or Triple Play Video Poker if you prefer, is an electronic game based around five card draw. Like the name suggests, Triple Play allows you to play three poker hands at one time.

Showing up about twenty years after the introduction of video poker, Triple Play appeared (same say exploded) onto the gambling world. Gamblers enjoyed playing three hands at once and especially enjoyed winning three times the amount of jackpots on single hand machines. This was in addition to the natural draw behind video poker (being able to make decisions to effect the outcome). Sales exceeded inventor Ernie Moody’s wildest expectations and a new variant of multi hand video poker was born. Today we find Triple Play’s children, “Five Play” and even “Hundred Play Poker” in casinos worldwide and online.

Playing Triple Play is quite easy. If you have a basic understanding of poker, you should understand the game fairly quickly. Besides, when you win the machine will let you know by flashing lights and ringing sirens to clue you in.

So follow us to the machine and let’s play a hand of Triple Play.

Since we’re playing Triple Play, the wagers are usually tripled up to a maximum of five credits per hand.  You don’t have to bet the max on each hand. If you’re down to your last eleven credits, the bottom and middle hands will have maximum credits and the top hand will have a one credit payout. As you can guess, you’ll want winning hands to appear on hands with a maximum bet. Remember, one maximum bet can give you payouts higher than five single credit wins on the same hand.

So go ahead and bet and get your three sets of five cards. Two sets are face down and one set is face up. From the face up set, choose which cards you want to keep. Each card you choose will appear in the other hands. So if you hold the two Kings, the face up hand and the two other hands will each have at least two Kings. Each hand draws cards from a separate deck. This means you don’t have to worry about having only four cards of a kind available. It’s quite possible (but rare) to get twelve of a kind on the screen. They’ll just belong to different hands.  All you need to worry about is getting jacks or better to win.

Does this sound neat? It is. In a way, it combines video poker with Let it Ride (because you can win three times over – if you win the first hand on the deal, you automatically win all three.) And if you don’t win right off the bat? Well, since they draw from different decks, you still have a shot to win all three. Neat.

All in all, this makes for a fascinating video poker experience, so we heartily recommend finding a triple play machine and playing a bit. Good luck!
