Betting on Rugby
Rugby is, for lack of a better description, the rest of the world’s answer to American Football. Especially popular in the United Kingdom and Australia, it’s a rough and tumble game that utilizes teams, tackling, running with the ball, crossing the goalline, etc – if you are familiar with American Football, you will have no trouble understanding Rugby.
In terms of its popularity comparison, think of it in terms of how Americans get when it comes to NFL football (pretty darn fanatical). Well, that happens with Rugby, too, so it should come as no surprise that there are fans that would want to place a few bets on the game, and make a few pounds from their winning team.
When it comes to placing a bet in the rugby league, a bettor will need to place a wager with a bookmaker (or an online betting service) – in most countries where Rugby is played, this isn’t a problem, as Rugby betting is generally legal there. In the US, one needs to go to Las Vegas, and then find a sports book giving Rugby action.
There are several different types of rugby bets that can be placed. As with most sports betting, betting on the winning team for a particular game is the most popular bet. One can also bet on the entire season (which team will finish first, etc). Depending on the venue you place your wager, being able to bet on the overall season is a definite possibility. One could also lay wagers on individual players, an over/under number, or a myriad of other smaller bets (these will vary from venue to venue.) Some venues even offer a spread-type bet, where you bet on several teams.
Unlike American Football, in most venues, fractional odds are used in Rugby. You may find a point spread bet of you look hard enough (because, let’s face it, point spreads are fun), but it’s more likely you will find fractional odds.
Also, when betting on a live game such as rugby, it is important to take into consideration that certain variables can affect the outcome of a game. For example, weather conditions can change the performance of how a game is being played (this is especially true with Rugby).
Betting on Rugby can be a lot of fun if done properly. It’s a fun game to watch, and placing a few pounds on your favorite team make it that much more interesting.
Good luck placing that next wager!
