Different Ways to Bet on the Horses (Horse Races)
When it comes to horse racing, there are a lot of options and factors that can be bet on. Everything from the top horse (the favorite) to the long shot; the first three places that the horses come in; the winners of multiple races, etc... indeed, the sheer number of choices available to the savvy player will make the betting experience anything but a typical day at the races.
So how many different types of bets are there, exactly? Largely, the type of wagers depends on the type of horse race. The “Big Three” of the horse bet are the “Win”, “Place” and “Show”. The “Win” is the most simple of bets, as it focuses on a bettor’s horse winning the race in first place. “Place” bets are used for the horse that comes in second place (or first in the race as well). The “Show” bet is for the horse that finishes third in the race (this bet is also won by a first or second placing).
There is also a bet called “Across the Board”. This type of bet allows a bettor to choose a horse that will come in the first, second or third places. In effect, this is a “three bet in one” situation, where the bettor gets some winnings as long as their horse comes in one of the first three places.
There are also several other types of exotic bets, such as “Exacta”, “Quinella”, “Trifecta” and “Superfecta” bets, which allow a bettor to select up to two, three, or four horses for the first, second, third, or even fourth place rankings.
There is also the “Daily Double”, which is a fun and popular bet that allows bettors to pick the winners of two consecutive (usually one after another) races. The bettor doesn’t collect their winnings unless their horses make good on the placing, but it’s certainly an impressive feat and worthy of some bragging rights. “Pick 3” is also fun, as it ups the ante by attempting to predict the winners of three races in a row. And some tracks even have a “Pick 6”, which is picking six winners in a row – how’s that for a tough bet? Or how about a “Key Bet”, where you bet the winner, and then pick perhaps four other horses to finish second or third? That’ll cause some cheering on the homestretch.
Horse racing is really a lot of fun, partly because of the myriad of bets available. It’s just so interesting with all the bets that can be attempted by the daring player. With a little bit of foresight, and just a bit of luck, placing money down on the horse races can have you walk away very, very happy.
