Playing in a Casino: Saving a Machine, Playing Two at Once, General Manners
If you are an avid slot machine player, then you already know the type: Slot machine enthusiasts who plunk themselves down in an area with their arms stretched out, where they will proceed to play 2 or 3 machines at a time in their outstretched arm kingdom. On one hand, it is a fairly amusing spectacle to watch, as it is generally “okay” in an area of the casino that is not busy at the moment. But when does “funny” become “rude”? And when is one person’s play style starting to infringe on other people’s enjoyment of the game?
When at the casino, be sure to exercise common courtesy. If the area is free and open, then that certainly allows room for more freeing play styles, so a player can get away with a lot more. But in a busier casino environment, however, it is important to take other players into consideration.
For example, when saving a machine, know the time limit. If you and a friend are spending a long night of marathon slot play, and one of you has to go use the restroom or get a drink, that’s one thing. However, if your friend is going out to have a full sit down dinner where they might be back in thirty minutes to an hour, the machine should just be expected to be “fair game” at this point. Besides, most people only want to sit and play a few rounds anyway. A stranger will likely have been able to sit, play a few rounds and move on long before your friend has even made it back.
If a player is playing two or three machines at once, one is going to have to concede that all three machines are not going to be a constant or simultaneous winner. If it is a weekend night, and the casino is full of players, there may be a chance that one or your machines may have to be forfeited. There is a chance that players will look somewhere else first, but it is also important to be a big person and share in the fun for everybody. Even if they sit down at a machine and win a large sum of money, don’t take it personal. Slot machine play is completely random and the play is predetermined from the moment that the lever is pulled or button is pressed.
So be a good sport and share the slots. You’ll be a better player if you do.
Lastly, slots are close together, so try and keep your personal “stuff” to yourself – drinks, bags, cigarettes, etc etc. And try not to swear – yes, the casino is an adult environment, but that doesn’t mean swearing like a sailor is acceptable.
Just follow the rules above, and you’ll have no trouble at the slots. Have fun!
