The Layout of the Table

The Roulette Table Layout

With so much excitement focused on the spinning of the Roulette wheel, and the player frantically keeping their eye on the ball, it is easy to forget that there are other major components of the game. Namely, the Roulette Table itself.

The Roulette Table is where the bets are made, the chips are placed, and dreams can be won (if the ball’s eventual stop works in your favor, that is).  Actually, the table layout is the only part of the game that allows for actual, hands-on involvement (as no players ever touch the wheel or the ball.) So while the actual table is important, it’s the layout of the table that is even more so.  To the casual passer-by, the design may look like a bunch of complicated nonsense, but there is actually a rhyme and reason to the layout.

For starters, there are thirty-six numbers on there, just like the Roulette wheel.  There are also other options, such as betting on a certain color (red or black), betting exclusively on odd or even space, placing specific bets on the “1 to 18” numbers or “19 to 36” numbers, the 0 and 00 numbers (if an American table), and the first, second, and third dozen.

As with the Roulette wheel, the layout of the table can vary in different countries, based on rules and position of key betting aspects.  For example, the French Roulette table layout differs from the European layout in where the outside bet options are set up.  European layouts can vary noticeably between American Roulette table layouts, as the American table uses “0” and “00” versus the European tables that only use “0” in their play.  So when traveling overseas to visit other casinos, make sure to not only bring your passport, but your understanding of knowing the differences between the various layout changes.

Despite its seemingly daunting layout, Roulette is actually a surprisingly easy game to learn.  The biggest decisions will largely be based on the type of bet that the player wishes to make, setting the betting chips down, and letting both the wheel and luck itself run its course. To make it even simpler, the betting areas are very simple to understand – placing a bet on 18-36, for example, means you will win if 18-36 comes up. Very easy, right?

So sit down at the roulette table, and enjoy a few spins – perhaps Lady Luck will be sitting next to you (and not her mean cousin, “Down on your Luck Delores”!)
