The Rules

When you walk by a Roulette table, there’s a lot of stuff going on: Spinning wheels, little metal balls thrown into play, chips placed all over the numbered table….  What’s going on?  Now before you start to freak out, let us assure you that there’s a rhyme and reason to all of these actions.  The game is actually pretty simple to learn, but it takes a little finesse to make the game benefit you.

First off, let’s start with the wheel itself.  The Roulette wheel is made up of 36 numbers, “0”, and if you are playing in American casinos, there is a “00” number as well.  The numbers are red and black, while the zeroes are green.

To begin play, players need to make an opening bet.  This is done when they place their chips on the numbers of the table.  Chips can normally be bought in stacks of 20 from the dealer.

As for bets, those can be made until the Dealer begins to put the ball into play by spinning it against the rotation of the wheel.  Bets can be made based on color, even/odd numbers, and even just personal “favorite” numbers.  Is there a wrong way to bet?  Not really!  It’s just best to choose what you are currently feeling at the moment, and hope that the ball lands in your chosen spot.  There’s no real trick to it.  Once the ball is rolling (literally and figuratively), the dealer will make a call of “No more bets”.

The ball will continue to spin until its momentum slows and starts to settle in one of the little grooves on the wheel, signifying one of the numbers.  Once the wheel settles and stops, the dealer will take a marker and place it on the corresponding winning number on the table.  If the player’s bet matches the selected number, they have won the current round.  At this point, feel free to celebrate (but you shouldn’t need to be told that!)

Obviously, the ball must land in a space on the wheel – if it bounces out of play, the spin is void, and the dealer will re-spin.

As you can see, Roulette is easy to learn, and easy to play.  Once you get an idea of how the game works, you should be ready to play in no time!
