How to make a bet in the game of Roulette
Betting in roulette isn’t very complicated (like some other games - Craps anyone?) However, in most casinos (at least in America), you cannot slap down a regular casino chip and start betting. Casinos need to easily tell who bet what, so generally, each player will receive a chip of a different color (please note that European casinos will generally allow you to use the same chips you use at other tables.)
Doing a “Buy-in” for table chips is as simple as placing money on Roulette table and telling the dealer what you need, “Give me twenty $5.00 chips!” Bet in Roulette by laying down a chip at the proper spot on the table. Be careful not to touch the chips between the time the dealer yells “No more bets” and the round is over. Roulette bets are similar between American and European Roulette.
“Inside bets” cover all the numbers including the zero slots. Several different types of Inside bets are available in Roulette. “Straight bets” are bets on any number including the zeros. Payouts are 35 to 1. Hope your number hits! “Split bets” are made by placing a chip (or chips) between two numbers (literally). Payouts are 17 to 1. A chip at the end of a horizontal row of numbers is a “Street/Trio bet”. Payouts are 11 to 1. A chip at the end of a line between two rows is a “Line/Six Number bet”. Winners get a 5 to 1 payout. A chip in the middle of four numbers (thus touching all numbers) is a “Corner bet” and you’ll get an 8 to 1 payout when you win. A “Five Number bet” is a chip on the line between the zeros and the first series of numbers at the top. You’ll get a 6 to 1 payout if you win on this house edge favorite.
“Outside bets” are bets listed outside the main playing area. First are “Even number” bets with a 1 to 1 payout. You can bet on low (1 to 18) or high numbers (19 to 36), on red or black, or on the odd or even numbers. Just put your bet on the box with the bet’s name. “Column bets” are bets on one of the three long columns. Payouts are 2 to 1. Playing “The Dozens” is wager on one third of the numbers. Depending on the box you’ll bet on 1 to 12, 13 to 24, or 25 to 36. Payouts are 2 to 1 for winners.
There you have it – those are the bets in Roulette – simple, right? When you’re ready to take your winnings home, tell the dealer to “Color” your chips, and you’ll get redeemable casino chips for cashing out.
Good luck!
