Betting in Craps: Betting Against The Dice
When hearing a phrase such as “Betting against the dice” or “Wrong way betting”, it just sounds like an upcoming recipe for disaster, doesn’t it? Actually, would you be surprised to find out that it is really not that bad at all?
While many Craps players are known as “right” players (in the literal and figurative sense), there are also “wrong” players. Now, why would anyone want to bet wrong, you ask? Because in betting “wrong” a player has just about as much of a chance as winning as betting “right”. Confused yet? Let’s explain a little more then.
Essentially, betting “Against the Dice” or “Wrong” are the Don’t Pass and Don’t Come bets. “Right” is betting Pass and Come. Simple as that. And when betting with or against the dice, the odds are actually almost the same either way. Some critics will even go as far to say that betting in the “wrong” actually provides a very slight advantage to the player (because generally, you are hoping for 7’s after the come out roll.)
That noted, let’s show you how you can go all out “against the dice”.
In order to make a bet against the dice play, a player must make a two unit bet (use a minimum of ten dollars for example purposes), and place it on the Don’t Pass Bar. Now go for that win. Did you get it? Excellent! Now collect your hard-earned winnings, but leave the original bet on the table.
In the event that you don’t win, for example (a natural “7” or “11” comes up), just place a new ten dollar bet on the Don’t Pass line. Establish the point then lay double odds on your next bet. In other words, you are putting down more than what you would actually win.
Finally, make another ten dollar bet on the Don’t Come line. The principle is still the same here. Follow up with another ten spot Don’t Come bet with double odds, giving you three numbers that are working against you (but not really). C’mon Seven!!!
Cold Rolls are good for placing another Don’t Come bet into play. This is the best time to increase a player bet, but keep in mind that when it comes to the house, they are always going to have an advantage. To make it even more interesting, double your original bet by placing a twenty dollar bet on the line instead of the usual ten. Now we’re getting somewhere!
It’s a tricky situation, but with a little practice, you can become a master of a whole new style of play. Plus, you get to cheer for lucky number 7 (unlucky for everyone else!)
So throw the table a curveball – being “wrong” is sometimes oh-so-right!!
