The Venetian Macao, Cotai

Styled to evoke the feel of Renaissance Venetian life, the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel is a luxury gaming resort in Macau, a Special Administrative Region of China. Like Hong Kong, Macau has a degree of autonomy from mainland China, and US citizens need only a passport--no visa--to visit this gaming wonderland that has been called the "Monte Carlo of the East." The Venetian itself is a 40-story, $2.4 billion property with a record-breaking 10,500,000 square feet of gaming, lodging, and entertainment, making it the largest resort in Asia.

The casino floor takes up 550,000 square feet and is packed with 3400 slot machines and 800 gaming tables. It is so large that it has been broken into four regions to make it more manageable for guests. The regions are named: Golden Fish, Imperial House, Red Dragon and Phoenix. All of these refer to auspicious places and creatures from ancient Chinese culture.

The hotel offers 3,000 suites luxurious suites, with familiar five-star amenities, such as a deluxe marble bathroom with separate bath and shower, complimentary robes and slippers, and a well-stocked minibar. A few unfamiliar amenities are also present, including a personal, silent multi-function fax/printer/copier in every suite.

Dining options about--there are fine dining, casual dining, and lounge options. Fine dining options range from Cantonese to Portuguese to Chicago Steakhouse menus. Casual restaurants, like the Imperial House Dim Sum, Boca Tapas, and the Blue Frog Bar and Grill, provide you with most any cuisine you desire in a laid-back atmosphere. And if you're looking for a drink, you can choose four different settings and themes, each offering snacks and light fare.

When you're ready to relax, the V Spa offers an oasis of the tranquility in the form of a Tuscany-inspired valley. They offer all manner of massage treatments, facials and body wraps, manicures and pedicures, and aromatherapy treatments, as well as standard beauty salon services, such as waxing and eyebrow tinting. Special packages are available for both male and female clients. The Venetian Macao also offers relaxation in the form of healthy exercise in the V Gym, with treadmills, stationary bikes, and weight training equipment, and multiple swimming pools with cabanas. Golfers can relax on the Grado Golf Course, an 18-hole putting course.

A 15,000 arena plays host to prime sporting events and concerts. Recent bookings include Avril Lavigne, and Asian pop superstar Aaron Kwon. The Zaia theater features a Cirque du Soleil troupe. Free shows at the Bellini round out the entertainment offerings, with cover and tribute bands, and top dance DJs.
