Mint Casino, Bolton

Bolton, a suburb of Manchester, England, is home to premier soccer, the Reebok sportswear company, cultural and historical landmarks and the Mint Casino Bolton. One of 20 “fine gaming establishments” owned by the Stanley Casino chain, Mint Casino Bolton is sure to please gamers with both its game floor and its personal service.

Open daily from 2PM to 6AM, you can take the afternoon to build some winnings or you can have a night out and game until dawn. Play your heart out on Mint Casino Bolton’s eight tables and 12 electronic gaming machines. Play Blackjack, Roulette and Three-Card Poker or try your luck on the virtual Roulette and slot machines. Enjoy free drinks and sandwiches while you play, but remember the dress code is business casual, so leave the sneakers you bought at the Reebok factory store at your hotel.

Should the excitement become too much, you can always retire to your hotel room. There are several nearby the casino. The Holiday Inn in Bolton Center is only a 5-minute walk and boasts 132 guest rooms and seven suites. For a great time, book an Executive Room where you’ll be greeted with complimentary bathrobe and slippers, magazines, private mini-bar, luxury toiletries, high-speed Internet and state-of-the-art entertainment technology.

Though you can get snacks and drinks at the Mint Casino, there is no restaurant. Fear not; there are plenty of dining establishments throughout the city. Enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Holiday Inn’s Hardies Restaurant – not to be confused with American Hardee’s. The restaurant is open late every day and serves up an array of international dishes. When you’re done eating, head over to the casino for a change of pace and have after-dinner drinks at the casino bar before you return to the action.

If you want to kick back, start your day with a workout at the Holiday Inn Bolton’s Health and Fitness Center, where you can lift weights or go for a jog before you enjoy the heated swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi and Solarium.  If you want something a little more active, play a round of golf on one of the municipal golf courses on the outskirts of the city, most of which offer club rentals as reasonable prices.

If you’d like to see the city, do it at night. Take in a concert, play or comedy show at the Octagon Theatre or The Albert Halls. For independent and big-budget films, check out the Bolton Little Theatre. If it’s dancing you’re after, try the Ikon Nightclub, a stylish venue with a large capacity, great music all night and VIP booths.  Want more laid back? Drink a pint with friends at one of the city’s traditional English ale-houses.

Waiting for the action to start during the day? Want to break away and see the English countryside? Bolton has that, too. The Bolton Museum and Aquarium exhibits fine art from throughout the centuries and the Aquarium has a wide range of tropical fish for your enjoyment – or the kids’. When you’re done there, head out to the Lake District, a British national park that is home to the highest mountain and the deepest lake in England.
