La Posta Casino, Boulevard

Just five miles from the Mexican border, Boulevard, California, is a great base for some over-the-border adventure. It’s also close to San Diego if you want to venture into the city to visit some of the international attractions like the San Diego Zoo or Sea World. Best of all, the city has a small casino where you can take in some cash in between adventures.

The La Posta Casino, open 24-hours daily, opened its doors in 2007 with 250 gaming machines, but has since added another 100. Choose from video Poker, virtual Roulette and Blackjack, as well as a variety of the latest themed interactive electronic games. If you’re a traditionalist, there are plenty of the classic lever-pull slot machines, too.

If you need a place to stay, book a room at one of the nearby hotels. The Lux Inn, 20-minutes from the casino has 16-rooms which are sparse, but clean. Visitors to this hotel often cite the helpful staff as a reason to go back. There is also the Live Oak Springs Resort just 15-minutes away. Choose from a dozen freestanding, private cabins, each of which has comfortable furniture, rural styling, a working fireplace and a two-person Jacuzzi. There’s also a five-acre RV Park adjacent to the cabins with full hookups, Laundromat, dumping station and private showers.

For food at the casino, try Marie’s a full-service restaurant, open 6AM to 12AM every day. There are separate breakfast, lunch and dinner menus and the cuisine is classic American, so treat yourself to a double-stack of pancakes or a large steak and potato dinner. There are also a couple of national chain restaurants nearby like Applebee’s and Chili’s. For drinks, the La Posta Sports Bar has a fully stocked bar.

When you want to enjoy some rest and relaxation, the Live Oak Springs Resort has much to do. First, begin your day the right way with a little exercise in the fitness center – there are free weights and a couple of cardio machines. Afterward, get a massage at the resort’s spa, and then head out into nature to enjoy hiking, swimming, camping and amazing stargazing.

At night, aside from the casino, there is very little to do in Boulevard, so it is highly recommended that you venture across the border or drive to San Diego if you’re looking for some high-octane nightlife. In San Diego, the Onyx Room is a particular local and tourist favorite for dancing and VIP socializing.

To find the La Posta Casino, fly into San Diego International Airport and take a one-hour drive to La Posta Casino, 777 Crestwood Road, Boulevard, California 941905.
