Lesser Known Casino Games: Australian Pontoon
G’ Day, mate! Ever hear of a little game by the name of Australian Pontoon? If you have not, you may find that it is an ideal game for up and coming Blackjack players, or for those who like an easy win. And hey, who doesn’t like a little easy money?
If you’ve ever heard of another game by the name of Spanish 21, then Australian Pontoon is in the same family, and basically plays the same. A lot of the appeal of Australian Pontoon is that the game is easier to beat than standard Blackjack. Two of the more popular regions that the game is played in are Australia (which makes sense, given the name), and Malaysia.
Australian Pontoon is set up like Blackjack, and even uses the same type of gaming table. Four decks of cards are put into play, and are either played directly from a shoe, or from a shuffling machine. The cards are standard 52 cards decks. They are, however, missing the “10” cards from each of the four card suits. This can be a disadvantage to the player as a deck without a “10” is more favorable in play for the Dealer. Australian Pontoon does make up for this by providing the player more options for bonuses and rules to benefit them (we told you this was an easier game!)
The best advantage of Australian Pontoon is that the game provides a better bet ratio than your standard Blackjack game, and also has anywhere from one third to two thirds the edge of Blackjack. It is also important to remember than in a game like Australian Pontoon, due to its similarities to Spanish 21, a “21” is an automatic win for the player, even if the Dealer themselves had a Blackjack as their hand. This is a very good thing.
Other fixed rules for Australian Pontoon cover things such as “surrendering”, especially after doubling. This tactic is known as a “Double Down Rescue”, as the player has to forfeit an amount that is equal in comparison to the original bet made. But the simple fact that it can be done is a nice advantage to the player.
Due to its ease of play and player friendly rules, Australian Pontoon, much like Spanish 21, is a very simple game to learn (and earn). It’s simplicity of play (after all, any blackjack variation is going to be simple), and tighter focus on player odds, make it a favorite of casino gamblers worldwide (although, as mentioned, the game is not played everywhere. Certain venues would rather the players not have better than standard odds.)
So what are you waiting for? Diggery Doo lessons? Get out there and go play some Australian Pontoon, and enjoy making that sweet, sweet money (if you’re lucky, of course!)
