A very brief explanation of how to play Blackjack
There are certain things you need to know about the game play of Blackjack, such as all of the game’s subtle nuances, rules, and expectations. The game play of Blackjack is simple to understand, but takes skill and experience to become a true master of the cards.
The Blackjack table is set up to accommodate anywhere from a single player to up to eight players. The dealer faces the players, and deals everyone (including him or herself) the initial two cards. The object for everyone is to beat the dealer (players do not play against each other.)
Understanding Blackjack gameplay is simple: The goal is to get as close to “21” as possible (or directly hitting “21”.) For the numerical cards “2” through “10”, their number value is represented on the respective card. Jacks, Queens and Kings are all worth “10” points each. An Ace card, based upon need and value of hand, can either represent a “1” value, or an “11” (so yes, in this game, you really can turn it up to “11”!)
Once cards are dealt, players (starting from the left of the dealer) make a decision – hit or stand. If a player takes a hit and goes over the 21 limit, this is considered a “Bust”. A bust is when the hand has exceeded 21 limit. If a player busts, he or she loses.
Once all players either hit or stand, the dealer plays his or her hand. Most venues require a dealer to hit until a hard 17 is reached. If the dealer busts, all players who haven’t busted win. If the dealer does not bust, then the closest to 21 between player and dealer wins (again, all players play against just the dealer, so it is very possible to have a table full of winners – or losers!)
Additionally, there is also a chance that a player can have a tie against the dealer. This move is called a “Push”. A Push essentially means that in the event of a tie, you simply withdraw the cards, no money will be lost, and you just try your luck again next hand.
Understanding Blackjack is a pretty simple thing to do once you get the hang of it. It mostly takes time, experience, and understanding the mathematical probability of the deck in order to get the best hands and make the smartest moves.
As always, best of luck to you out there on the casino floor!
